Another day complete. And though it wasn't as bad as some people have described, I did notice a few issues. To start, exercising was a complete nightmare. I went to the gym and attempted to run. It was terrible. My legs were like lead and brick combined. I haven't struggled with exercise like that in forever! It was upsetting but everyone says it's normal.
Breakfast: leftover chocolate chili and a bowl of zucchini soup...Ummm, REALLY!
Lunch: spaghetti squash, pulled pork (finally finished that...and the chili is also finished except for the frozen batch) and a few grapes
Snack: pulled pork and an avocado (I was starving at 2 pm and couldn't handle it...but I did eat on plan so that is great)
Dinner: huge bowl of zucchini soup and a little bite of chocolate chili
So I think the exercise may have played into the earlier hunger. I didn't eat a post- workout snack as recommended. Tomorrow I will plan to eat something after I exercise on purpose to avoid the slump.
All my pre-made food has been fantastic but I am ready to venture out and try some new foods. I am going to do more salad tomorrow and add in some seafood. I did take a short nap today which was nice. I was tired for certain. I also noticed I was probably a little more snappy than normal but not too terrible (says the snappy person!)
I do admit 30 days seems really long now. I need to get into double digits! I think getting past my first weekend will be HUGE!
I am dying to weigh - I need to know if I am losing but I know that could cause me to go off plan if it isn't coming off. I feel like overall I am looking thinner. I am still constipated, but I got a natural supplement to get that started (literally). Once I can get "going" daily, I think I will feel more of the great effects. I am going to go for some leaner protein and more salads over the next few days. I think the higher fat meats were a good intro into the plan but I am craving lean meat like chicken and seafood. I may do a shrimp salad with my homemade mayo tomorrow.
And 4 days with no dairy, wheat, alcohol, soy, or added sugar!! WOW!

Day 3
I dreamed that I ate a cereal bar last night. I was so mad! I was about half way through in my Whole 30 and I couldn't believe I cheated on a cereal bar. Then I woke up and all the world was right. Ha!
So I felt really good overall today. I am still waiting for the hangover phase. I am somewhat surprised it hasn't hit. I ate plenty of sugar before but so far no real symptoms. My only real complaint is that my legs felt terrible when I tried to run on day 2. I think keeping my one cup of coffee daily helped a little. I never drank much caffeine but not totally cutting that out may be helpful...and there I go sneezing as I type.
To keep it brief on what I ate:
Breakfast: coffee (I added cinnamon and coconut milk and it was way better), a two egg omelet with pulled pork and spinach, blueberries
Lunch: spaghetti squash with chocolate chili on top and a side broccoli slaw salad with homemade dressing (balsamic vinegar, olive oil, lemon juice and salt and pepper)
Dinner: pulled pork, spaghetti squash (with ghee- first time trying that), an avacado and a small cup of zuchini soup
Yes- I made and ate (and LOVED) zuchini soup. I think this is a crazy step but it was me trying something totally new and I really liked it. So creamy and crazy good. As a matter of fact, I plan to have some for breakfast on Day 4.
I am still constipated (TMI) but I don't feel as bloated as I normally do, especially not in the evenings. I also noticed that my eyes don't look as puffy as normal. I even think my whole face looked less puffy/ thinner tonight when I was getting ready for bed.
Finally, I made a huge step. We have dinner plans Friday night at the Burns' house. I went as far as to email Kate and tell her I was on an elimination diet and wouldn't be eating much or drinking wine this weekend. Such a huge step! By admitting this to someone I am holding myself accountable. I am so proud of myself. Only through day 3 of 30 but that is 10% and off to a great start feeling more motivated now than I did on day 1! My only other issue is now I need to find someone to buy all the Nurtisystem food that I have no intention of ever eating. It really makes me cringe when I think of all the non food stuff in that box. Don't get me wrong- I could eat a box of Triscuits any time but dehydrated hamburger...no thanks!!

Day 2
Woke up early- not really a choice...a 6 week old puppy in the house doesn't allow you to sleep in. Didn't sleep great last night but again- puppy to blame more than anything, and a 3 year old with growing pains.
I felt great when I woke up, not hungry but comfortable. I started with coffee with a splash of almond milk (which is compliant I determined after a whole bunch of posts!!). I made another omelet. This time 3 eggs with tomatoes, onions, spinach and topped with 1/2 an avacado. Yummy!!
I can really enjoy how rich an avacado is when I am not eating much other high fat food!
My Boston butt was ready just after breakfast. It literally fell off the bone when I tried to take it out of the crock-pot. That made me so excited! My first time making this and it looked awesome!
One kid woke up sick, the dog pooped on the floor (and I stepped in it), had to go pick one kid up from grandparents and take her to cheer camp...
I ate some of the pulled pork (no sauces other than a little of the natural juice drippings from the pot), a small sweet potato that I topped with a small dollop of homemade mayo, and some broccoli. All the food was already prepared, just heat and eat. This is the way to do this!
I was hungry around 4 p.m. and had 2 whiny kids with me and then I started thinking how I would love to sit down with a glass of wine once they were in bed. I also contemplated a cup of decaf coffee...but by the kids bedtime I was past that and didn't even think about it.
For dinner, I served the kids baked chicken with yellow rice and broccoli. I didn't even care for any yellow rice, though I admit I almost liked the spoon when it was done...clearly a habit. I caught myself millimeters from making contact. Whew! I ate spaghetti squash topped with the chocolate chili. It was awesome. I can totally cut out regular pasta for spaghetti squash going forward.
I did try to exercise today. Though I felt okay and had energy, when I got on the treadmill I thought I was going to die. I felt actual muscle fatigue in my legs (something I never have- I have been running for years!) I also struggled with my breathing even with the help of my inhaler. I lasted a measly 7.5 minutes and called it quits. I plan to head to the gym tomorrow.
Overall it has been a good day. I only have 2 concerns. I am feeling pretty constipated... like really bloated. I can even see my stomach looking swollen. And I finally took my before pictures today which also show said swollen stomach...YIKES! I think this will pass (no pun intended) if I keep going. I definitely need to increase my water more which may be a key.
Secondly, I am already getting anxious about social settings with this. I know I can do it, I just need to remind myself why I want to. This is so much better than telling someone I am on Nutrisystem or doing WW but still... and I need my go to plan for social dinners. Do I eat before and just order water or sparkling water maybe? Do I do my best to eat on plan given whatever food is there? Tomorrow my goal is to figure out my action plan for these upcoming dinners out.
No other complaints in terms of how I am feeling. And I truly love eating all the home-cooked healthy food. It is fabulous. That does make me happy!

Day 1
Started the day excited. I woke up early and made a 3 egg omelet with some frozen Asian stir-fry veggies (broccoli, green beans, mushrooms, peppers). It was delicious. I like these anyway but normally make mine with boxed egg whites and smaller. I followed the guidelines and went with 3 eggs since I knew I wouldn't be snacking at all today. I also drank one cup of black coffee! Not my favorite but doable. I was satisfied and full.
After breakfast we headed to North Georgia where we picked up our new puppy, Bush. He is a 6 week old Golden Retriever. So sweet and cute.
For lunch I had wild caught salmon and frozen cauliflower. This was what we had in the house since I hadn't gone shopping yet. It was good. Drank water.
Finally it was time to go grocery shopping. I used the list by The Clothes Make the Girl blog on week 1. I had most of the meat already but needed to stock up on veggies and some other staples. I also followed her week 1 prep plan. I cooked Chocolate chili, several chicken breasts, a few sweet potatoes, spaghetti squash (for the first time ever!), and Joey cooked a beer can chicken. There is a Boston butt in the slow-cooker as well. I think we may be eating this food forever but it smells delicious. I even made homemade mayo that is Whole 30 compliant. It is amazing...except that I cut my finger terribly on the blender. Rookie!!
For dinner we had beer can chicken (without the skin) topped with mango and avocado, a tiny sweet potato, broccoli, and spaghetti squash. Everything was compliant. I am finishing the day with water with a squeeze of real lemon juice to mix it up.
I was proud of myself but I do think the wine is going to be what I miss most. I am in it though. I did weigh this morning. (135.8) No more of that for the next 30 days! No exercise today but I plan to add that as well 4 days a week. The only thing I need to work on is drinking more water. Room for improvement but very happy with day 1.
Will do before photos soon...probably won't post but we will see:)

Day 0
This will serve as my personal daily journal as I make my way through the Whole 30. This is more of a reset than a long term diet but I think this is exactly what I need. I have been wanting to lose 10-15 pounds for several months and casually attempted Weight Watchers and Nutrisystem. Though I could see losing weight on both programs, they are missing the healthy nutrition component that I am looking for. I really want to set an example for my children to mirror healthy eating so that I can be the example that I preach to them.
I happened upon the Whole 30 program while I was researching nutrition "programs" and it really hits all the ideas I want to incorporate...whole real food without junk. It is an elimination diet but only lasts 30 days. I will take pictures tomorrow and weigh myself for a starting weight. I did just get home from the beach today, so I anticipate a slightly elevated starting point tomorrow.
We have been at the beach for the last week and I really felt down on myself. I feel like I have let myself go worse than ever. I was embarrassed when I noticed that I was getting a striped tan on my stomach (the rolls were causing problems!) I have to start taking better care of myself and stop making excuses!
My plan is to exercise 60 minutes, 4 days a week with 1 of those days being with a trainer. I will follow the plan as closely as possible- including 30 days without alcohol!! I will try to blog at least briefly daily so I can look at the daily feelings/ effects and hopefully notice the positive changes. For now my plan is to reintroduce some of the eliminated foods at the end slowly to judge any intolerances.
I am also going to use this as an opportunity to do a Spring cleaning of sorts in my closets, pantry and house in general. I want to use this as step 1 in being the organized, scheduled, less frazzled. I am going to plan to clean out my pantry, sell my remaining nutrisystem food, and set us up for success. Though I don't expect my kids and husband to jump fully on board, I hope to positively influence them by serving them more Whole 30 meals and having more nutritious food ready for them to eat through the month.
